FAQ

How do I get onto the team?

The roster for the season was chosen after tryouts for independent teams last April as designated by the AAHA.  The ISS Kings program offers a very high level of player development and consequently it requires a very high level of player commitment. The program is not for everyone. Families of players on the ISS Kings are highly dedicated to the development of youth hockey, and players on the team have the highest aspirations for success, be it  USHL, D1 or NHL. The program has been designed with extensive professional, nonparent coaching and consultation to foster the highest potential of each player. Players who wish to be considered for involvement on this year’s team, or next years, should contact us as soon as possible. It is open to any elite player of the 2002 birth-year (including non-US citizens), with options for billeting as well.

In the words of Herb Brooks, “Success is won by those who believe in winning and then prepare for that moment. Many want to win, but how many prepare? That is the big difference. A sound value system held water then, holds water today, and will hold water in the future……I looked for People first, athletes second. I wanted people with a sound value system as you cannot buy values. You’re only as good as your values. I learned early on that you do not put greatness into people…but somehow try to pull it out.”

How much experience does my child need?

Our hockey players have extensive experience playing at highest levels of competition for age and have competed at an elite level.   The ISS Kings were ranked # 2 in the US, in 2015-2016 season, and top 10 for the last three seasons.    Above all, our program emphasizes integrity, hard work, and desire to learn in a fun environment.  It is okay to make mistakes on our team.  It is not okay not to try hard.  Players with these traits are the hallmark of our roster.

How much time is needed to participate, including practices, games, and lessons?

The most successful hockey players come from highly dedicated and supportive families. So as much as our program offers, players often are doing even more to excel, both academically and for hockey.

September – Spring

Fridays 4pm – 9pm: 1.5 hours off ice concept teaching, dinner, 2.5 hours pond 3×3 ice
Saturdays 12:30-2pm; and 3:50-5:20pm Full Ice Practice.  2:15-3:30pm classroom
Sundays 11:00-12:30pm and 2:20-3:50 Full Ice Practice. 12:45-2pm classroom

How much time is spent home or away?

The program was purposefully designed to be academically supportive, with essentially  three out of four weekends at home.  High level tournament play, often invitation only, is intended once per month and can be found on the homepage.

If this is mid-season, can I participate now or can I sign up for next season?

Our program philosophy is to support the endeavors in hockey of players who demonstrate an elite level of dedication and commitment at the 2002 level. We believe in educating the youth hockey player, and that any youth player should have the right to play with whoever and for whoever they so choose such that they best maximize their full developmental potential by having fun, and being comfortable in their learning environment. Since we are an independent team, while we have a full roster for the year, we have the ability to have other dedicated players participate in our program. Those players and their families should contact us for participation possibilities.
